Cowboys Sitting Pretty at 12-1

Most of you have forgotten, but you were all doubting my Cows at the start of the season. I remember it well. I had two bets going that the Cowboys would win at least 12 games this season. Everyone, including Randy Galloway and his cohorts, doubted that the Cows could win more than nine games.
You doubters of Romo, you have no excuse! You don’t get to back out now or save face. Tony Romo has led this Dallas team to a 12-1 season thus far, and there’s no reason to expect Dallas to lose more than one more game before the regular season draws to a close.
“Mister Fix It” Wade Phillips is on the job! Say what you will, but the Cowboys are playing significantly better than they did under Bill Parcells. Sure, give Big Bill credit for assembling the cast. But we all know that he was limited in this stage of his career, like Don Nelson. Both created great Dallas teams, but neither could lead those teams to a championship. They are team builders more than championship winners.
Let’s take a quick look at the remainder of the season. Future opponents include Detroit, Philadelphia, Carolina, and Washington. Look for Detroit to come out big when they play Dallas at home next week. Kitna needs a big game to carry his team strong into the NFC Wildcard spot, so expect Detroit to play with a lot of heart.
Though Philadelphia has typically been a difficult team to beat, Dallas is far superior to the Eagles this year, and you can expect the Cowboys to soundly whip them at home. Carolina is a mystery game. Not sure what to expect from the Panthers, but not many worries there. Washington doesn’t pose much of a threat either. Look for next week’s game against Detroit to be the only game where Dallas might struggle.
In the end, it doesn’t really matter. Dallas has clinched a playoff berth. Only four more games left in this regular season. Keep your fingers crossed. Our two goals remaining for this season are home field advantage against the Packers and the best game we can muster against New England.
Favre Injured by Dallas Defense

I’m watching the Cowboys vs. Packers on NFL Network via KDFI Channel 27. It’s been one of those crazy games where Brett Favre has taken WAY TOO MANY chances and it’s cost him two interceptions in the first half. Favre kept looking for the long bomb and kept missing his target when he should have been looking to hit a mid-range receiver in the middle of the field.
The Packers are walking out of the locker room as I type. Dallas is leading Green Bay, 27-17. In the second quarter, Brett Favre took a hit to his throwing arm.
We’re into the second half now. Favre is on the sidelines. Let’s see how Green Bay handles this injury.

At the commercial break (9:27pm CST), Green Bay actually managed to score a touchdown! Figures that they would rally after Brett Favre gets hurt. It’s 27-24. Dallas leads by three.

God, I love watching Marion Barber run! He looks and acts and plays like a warrior!
Romo Versus Favre: NFL Thursday

In the largest game of the NFC this season, Brett Favre will lead his Green Bay Packers down to Texas and try to reverse his 0-9 losing streak at Texas Stadium. It’s NFL Thursday, and the game is only available on the NFL Network.
With Patrick Crayton healthy and the Cowboys defense on the upswing, give the points on this one. Cowboys beat the Packers by 8-10 points at least this week. But don’t you worry. This won’t be a snoozer. Expect this game to be one aerial display after another.
Expect Owens to score two TDs and either Crayton, Hurd, or Witten to score another. You should probably throw in at least one rushing touchdown for good measure. Favre will put up at least three touchdowns, only to be outdone by his pupil, the soon-to-be-great Tony Romo. Yes, I nearly called him great. Romo doesn’t have the championships yet, so we’ll relegate him to “almost” status.
But mark my words. The nearly great Romo will not cease to amaze this Thursday. Only I and millions of Americans won’t know it until Friday morning since we don’t have the stupid NFL Network… How exclusionary.
Cowboys Rock Thanksgiving Day

It was a typical route of the New York Jets. You got what you expected on that one. It doesn’t matter that the Jets found a way to dismantle the Steelers last week. This is this week, and the Cowboys are for real. With Terry Glenn out for most of the season and Patrick Crayton missing in action due to an ankle sprain, the Cowboys were looking pretty lean at the wide receiver position.
Terrell Owens and Sam Hurd got the start at wide out. After that, though, who’s left? Some third or fourth string guys we’ve never heard of. Not to bag on those guys, though. We’ve seen quite a few somebodies emerge from the ranks of the nobodies around the league.
Even with such a shortage of wide receivers, Romo had a good game and the defense contributed a few sacks and an interception for a touchdown. But it’s next Thursday that really matters, folks. That’s when the top two NFC teams face off for what will likely amount to home field advantage in the playoffs. Brett Favre is having the best season of his career, and the Packers are perhaps the biggest surprise in the NFL thus far.
Both Cowboys and Packers are sitting pretty at 10-1. If the Cowboys can pull this next week’s win off against an inspired Packers team, they’ll have a much better chance of making it to the Big Show in Arizona. I haven’t seen a Cowboys Super Bowl appearance in so long, my tongue goes numb in anticipation.
Keep your fingers crossed and your coolers charged.
