November 2007

Tony RomoMost of you have forgotten, but you were all doubting my Cows at the start of the season. I remember it well. I had two bets going that the Cowboys would win at least 12 games this season. Everyone, including Randy Galloway and his cohorts, doubted that the Cows could win more than nine games.

You doubters of Romo, you have no excuse! You don’t get to back out now or save face. Tony Romo has led this Dallas team to a 12-1 season thus far, and there’s no reason to expect Dallas to lose more than one more game before the regular season draws to a close.

I’m watching the Cowboys vs. Packers on NFL Network via KDFI Channel 27. It’s been one of those crazy games where Brett Favre has taken WAY TOO MANY chances and it’s cost him two interceptions in the first half. Favre kept looking for the long bomb and kept missing his target when he should have been looking to hit a mid-range receiver in the middle of the field.

The Packers are walking out of the locker room as I type. Dallas is leading Green Bay, 27-17. In the second quarter, Brett Favre took a hit to his throwing arm.

Unimpressive Win Over Minnesota

by David on November 29, 2007

The Mavs managed to pull out a narrow victory Thursday against Minnesota. The final score was 109-103 against a team that should refund season ticket holders due to the pathetic nature of their play.

The Mavs are in a slump of sorts, which has set the radio talk show hosts a jabbering. Dale Hansen reminds us daily that the regular season doesn’t matter. Randy Galloway tells us the same. But Steve Dennis is concerned, and like many others, is wondering if this is a preview of yet another post-season meltdown.

Mavericks Need a New Look

by AaronPhillips on November 28, 2007

MavsIn my opinion, the Mavericks are fakes ….they just can’t seem to get it right.

Sure, they look good on paper. They have a good mix of veterans and young talent. I don’t know if it’s the way Avery is managing the games (probably is) or what. Maybe they are trying to implement a new strategy – stink it up in the regular season so that maybe they will do better in the playoffs… who knows.

In the largest game of the NFC this season, Brett Favre will lead his Green Bay Packers down to Texas and try to reverse his 0-9 losing streak at Texas Stadium. It’s NFL Thursday, and the game is only available on the NFL Network.

With Patrick Crayton healthy and the Cowboys defense on the upswing, give the points on this one. Cowboys beat the Packers by 8-10 points at least this week. But don’t you worry. This won’t be a snoozer. Expect this game to be one aerial display after another.

It was a typical route of the New York Jets. You got what you expected on that one. It doesn’t matter that the Jets found a way to dismantle the Steelers last week. This is this week, and the Cowboys are for real. With Terry Glenn out for most of the season and Patrick Crayton missing in action due to an ankle sprain, the Cowboys were looking pretty lean at the wide receiver position.

Terrell Owens and Sam Hurd got the start at wide out. After that, though, who’s left? Some third or fourth string guys we’ve never heard of. Not to bag on those guys, though. We’ve seen quite a few somebodies emerge from the ranks of the nobodies around the league.

Looking at Dallas Domain Names

by David on November 22, 2007

Here in Dallas, we love our Mavericks. But we love our Cowboys too. We’re currently looking for a domain name that would allow us to include Cowboys and Mavericks coverage in one site. We love MavsUpdate, and we’re not completely sold on the idea of moving to a new domain, so we might just start a Cowboys blog as well. It all depends on what’s available and the result of a vote.

If you have any domain ideas for Dallas Cowboys or Dallas sports coverage, let us know.

If you’re a Mavs fan, this is really the only question worth asking. They’ve done everything else. With a visit to the championship two years ago, a 70 win season, and the current league MVP in Dirk Nowitzki, there’s not much left to accomplish until they bring home a championship.

The Mavs are 8-2 early on, which means practically nothing. The media can get all excited predicting a loss-less season for Boston (which was just disrupted) and talk about how disappointing it is that Kobe is still a Laker. But no one has anything to say about the Mavericks. What is there to say? They SHOULD have won a championship against Miami. They got royally stomped by Golden State last year. Two years of harsh disappointment lead us to this point, during a regular season that doesn’t really matter.

Celtics Look to Feast on the East

by David on November 10, 2007

It’s still early in the season, yet the Boston Celtics are playing on a level above that of any other Eastern Conference team. Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, and Kevin Garnett are playing like men among boys. Their routine 20+ pts each per game bring a better balance to their team than just about any other in the league.

Watch out, Mavs fans! Though I wasn’t one to proclaim them champions during the off season, they’re making a good case for why, if they stay healthy, they are at worst favorites to win the Eastern Conference. They’re the most exciting team in the East since Dwayne Wade and Shaq won the championship against our beloved Mavs.

New Rivals Coming To Town

by David on November 4, 2007

ESPN reported early Saturday morning that the Seattle Supersonics’ new owner informed the NBA on Friday of his intention to move the team to Oklahoma City.

Nothing is guaranteed at this point. The Supersonics are still in litigation with the city of Seattle, but they sound ready to move whenever the opportunity arises. That could be next year or when their current lease expires in Seattle.
