Fantasy Panel: Week 8

by DanielDessinger on October 31, 2009

We’re back with another Fantasy Football Panel. This weekend kicks off Week 8, and it’s time to make some team modifications.

Pick One Lower Tier Running Back

Steve Hartline: Without doubt you need to grab Thomas Jones of the Jets, and I’ll give you three reasons: With Leon Washington suffering a season ending injury, Jones will get the bulk of the touches. With Sanchez playing like a rookie after all, look for the Jets to go with a bread and butter run first offense. And Jones is out to prove he still has what it takes to carry the load.

Three-Headed Monster – Week 7

It’s back!!! The Three-Headed Monster was in full effect Sunday afternoon at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas’ 37-21 win over the Falcons. Ok, I don’t if “full effect” is really accurate, as the three combined for 84 yards on the ground on 22 attempts and 30 yards on 4 pass receptions. Atlanta’s defense did a good job of keeping the Monster in check, but you wonder how much of it has to with after effects from injuries and missed time.

Miles Austin: A Hidden Gem

Two games ago, Dallas Cowboy fans were treated to the coming out party of Miles Austin. Which then made him the talk of the bye week. Then last week he had another impressive performance against Atlanta, this time in front of the home crowd.

This emergence of a true speed receiver has given the Cowboys a true deep threat, that we have haven’t seen since the days of Joey Galloway. This new found weapon looks to open the passing game up and also help the healthy stable of running backs.

Artest in Foul Trouble

by DanielDessinger on October 30, 2009

With six minutes left in the 3rd Quarter, Dallas leads 64 to 52. The game intensity just seemed to kick up a notch. Watching this game online and blogging from my Motorola CLIQ.

Nowitzki just cashed in another three. Artest is in major foul trouble and is sitting on the bench. Mavs are now up 16 points. Extremely surprised. Lakers need a timeout to regroup.

UPDATE: Mavs route Lakers. 94-80. Shawn Marion continues to look like a solid acquisition, giving the Mavericks a pick and roll, in the paint slash move they’ve been lacking.

As desperate as the Cowboys fans are for recapturing a little of the Glory Days, you can pardon our exuberance in the solid victory over the 4-1 NFC South contending Atlanta Falcons this past Sunday. But before we call a wrap to the season and start printing play-off tickets, let’s take a quick gander at just what happened in that game.

The Warm Up: Cowboys vs Seahawks

It’s Week 8, and Dallas aims to build on a 2-game win streak that saw a breakout performance by undrafted 4th year wide-out Miles Austin. The Cowboys Week 7 performance included more dynamic play from Austin, a much more relaxed Tony Romo, and a defense that absolutely stifled the potent Falcons offense for a much needed victory at home.

Well folks, it’s been an awful long time since I’ve been able to watch and break down an offensive effort that was, I dare say, impressive. Let’s take a dive into what made this week so different from the rest.

Just how “Romo Friendly” were we?

Reactions to Mavs Season Opener

I was in the AAC last night for the Mavs season opener against the Washington Wizards and wanted to share a few quick thoughts on the game and the Mavs.

  1. If you’re able, I highly recommend taking the DART train to the game. Drops you off right in front of the arena.
  2. I also recommend the $2 tickets. Yes, you’re way at the top of the arena, but it’s not like being way at the top of Jerry World.
  3. The AAC opened in 2001 and still looks immaculate.
  4. The new score/videoboards, though glitchy at times, are a massive upgrade to what they had before. Crystal clear picture and what can border on information overload if you’re really paying attention to that stuff.

You have to see it. Adrian Peterson just destroys William Gay. Love it. Peterson is a beast.

I gotta watch that again.
