Give Lamar Odom A Break

by Patton on February 22, 2012

warming up

Yeah, this is where he'd like to be.

“He’s not playing all [power forward] minutes and he’s not playing with two 7-footers that are great scorers in the post. He’s now playing, probably splitting minutes between [small forward] and [power forward], which affects his rebounding, and his playmaking is going to be of a different nature at the 3-position. And so that’s been a constant adjustment and he’s making it, and so I just think that’s where we are.”

Honestly, no.  The franchise tag is not required, but it is something that teams can use to hold onto players that they feel they should lock up.  The Cowboys don’t use it all the time, but, especially in this case, I think it would be weird for the Cowboys to try to lock anybody down.  This team needs a new birth, a fresh start, and they should not be holding back from drafting or signing anybody.

This Sounds Painful

by Patton on February 20, 2012

This is sort of painful to read.  Tyson Chandler always thought he’d be a Maverick, but it didn’t turn out that way.  Does this sting any Maverick fans as much as I think it does?

“I thought honestly I was going to be there anyway.  I thought I was going to retire a Maverick. After the season last year and winning the championship I felt like it was going to be home, and it’s always going to be home to me because it’s where I won a championship. But, I really honestly didn’t believe that I wasn’t coming back until I put ink to paper here.”

What do the Cowboys do?

by Patton on February 19, 2012

If you gaze around the football landscape, the NFC East is a really tough division.  In it, you have:

A team that has won two Super Bowls in five years.

A team that has more talent on its roster than anyone.

A team that could likely grab Peyton Manning if Manning does not return to Indy.

A team that has the other Manning brother.

A team that has an owner who will spend (with total abandon, mind you.)

A team that is coached by someone who’s been to five NFC title games.

In an interview, Jason Hatcher, Cowboys defensive end, make a very interesting statement that led to me talking to my computer.  He was asked:

Who are the leaders on the Dallas Cowboys?

He said:

“Dude. I gotta be honest with you: That’s a good question. That’s a good question. I really don’t know. It’s just another thing we really need … like the Ravens, we don’t have that. We’ve got the talent. We’ve got everything we need. I think we get like aRay Lewis-type. Everybody buys into him. When Ray Lewis speaks, everybody listens to him. A guy like that. We really don’t got that. I think we definitely need somebody like that.”

I just read an article where Tony Romo was compared to Jeremy Lin.  For my money, that doesn’t really make any sense.  Yes, Tony Romo came out of nowhere.  And, after he started playing, there was some success.  And, he’s a good player.  However, there is nothing like Jeremy Lin.  In order for Romo to have been like Lin, he would had to turn the world on its head in his first couple of starts.

Josh Hamilton Is Changing…

by Patton on February 16, 2012

Josh Hamilton is making some life changes, and he’s talking about it because he really feels like his last relapse (and the Rangers’ response) was something that brought about great changes in his life.  Just listen to the quotes and see what you think:

“This time it’s not just, ‘OK, it happened, we’ll move past it and maybe it won’t happen again.  We want to find out why it continues to happen. Whether it’s things in my life — stress, home things, whatever the case — those things might be a trigger.”

Cuban Still Upset By CP3 Trade?

by Patton on February 14, 2012

Mark Cuban is, in my opinion, one of the best owners in professional sports.  So, if he’s still fuming about a trade that he didn’t really take part in (except that he partially owns just a little bit of the New Orleans Hornets,) you know that it must be serious.  When you read these soundbites, you will see why the Mavs are so good and why we can all bask in how good the Mavs are.

Jason Kidd doing an interview for FSN 12/3/09, Izod Center
Jason Kidd’s minutes are under scrutiny now that the Mavericks are trying to play some catch up and figure out how to last throughout the rest of the season.  I’ve seen people recommend that he sit longer, that he play off the bench, and that the Mavs need to find someone who can play in his place.  Yes, I’ve heard people say it’s time to ship off Jason Kidd for a younger player.

Rangers Sign Napoli For One Year

by Patton on February 12, 2012

Mike Napoli and the Rangers signed a one-year, $9.4 million deal that helped them avoid arbitration with Napoli.  This also keeps the Rangers out of arbitration again.  They haven’t been to an arbitration hearing since 2000, and keeping it that way seems like a really good idea on the whole.  If you can sign people before you have to take them to a hearing, then everybody turns out happy in the end.
