One of the biggest questions facing the Cowboys this offseason is what to do with free agent wide receiver Laurent Robinson.
Robinson had a breakout season in 2011, as he became Tony Romo’s favorite red-zone target. He caught 54 receptions for 858 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. Even as the third/fourth guy in, Robinson ended the year classifying himself in two NFL categories: ranking 35th in receiving yards and tying for fourth in touchdown receptions.
Big scare for Dirk Nowitzki and Mavs fans Sunday when he tried to drive past Amare Stoudemire, but ended up hitting the deck and staying down for a moment to check out his left knee.
“What happened was he clipped my right leg, but I kept on the drive and my left leg actually buckled on it so I hyperextended it a little,” Nowitzki said. “It loosened up after that and I was able to finish the game.”
Pretty shocking comments by Dallas Cowboys defensive end Jason Hatcher during the Ben & Skin Show on ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM on Friday.
Hatcher was asked who are the leaders on the Dallas Cowboys and this was his response:
“Dude. I gotta be honest with you: That’s a good question. That’s a good question. I really don’t know. It’s just another thing we really need … like the Ravens, we don’t have that. We’ve got the talent. We’ve got everything we need. I think we get like a Ray Lewis-type. Everybody buys into him. When Ray Lewis speaks, everybody listens to him. A guy like that. We really don’t got that. I think we definitely need somebody like that.”
Is cornerback Stanford Routt, who was surprisingly cut by the Oakland Raiders last week on potential Dallas Cowboys signing?
Routt’s agent has said that Routt is scheduled to visit the Buffalo Bills and the Tennessee Titans, but various media outlets are reporting that the Cowboys have reached out to the agent about Routt’s services.
According to STATS LLC, opponents were held to a 47.4% percentage against Routt. But he allowed eight touchdown passes, tied for the second-most in the NFL, and led the league with 17 penalties committed.
According to ESPN, the Texas Rangers have avoided arbitration with shortstop Elvis Andrus, agreeing Tuesday to a three-year deal worth between $14-15 million.
Andrus, 23, will avoid arbitration for the remainder of his career with Texas thanks to the contract. He batted .279 with five homers and 60 RBIs with 37 stolen bases in 2011.
It was Andrus’ third season in the league as the club’s starting shortstop. He was second in the AL rookie of the year balloting in 2009, hitting .267 with six homers and 40 RBIs with 33 stolen bases. He had a .265 average with no homers and 35 RBIs with 32 stolen bases in 2010.
The 2011 NFL season is over and it is time to turn our attention to the 2012 Draft.
ESPN’s Todd McShay has just released his first, of what will be many, mock drafts and he has the Cowboys taking troubled cornerback Janoris Jenkins from North Alabama in the first round. Jenkins was kicked off the team at Florida for various offenses.
Jenkins performed well during Senior Bowl practices but his off-the-field issues make him a risk, but McShay said this about him:
Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton, who has battled drug and alcohol addictions, said he “had a moment of weakness” and drank alcohol on Monday night. Hamilton addressed the media on Friday and explained the details of the incident.
Retired star running back Tony Dorsett is one of more than 300 former players suing the National Football League. Dorsett is one of more than a dozen plaintiffs in concussion-related lawsuits with the NFL.
Dorsett says that the league pressured injured players to “get back out” on the field, causing long-term brain damage.
Dorsett recalls a helmet-to-helmet shot that knocked him out cold in the second quarter of a 1984 Cowboys-Eagles game, the hardest hit he ever took during his career.
“Did they know it was a concussion?” he asked rhetorically. “They thought I was half-dead.”
