Brett The Evil One Favre

If you haven’t seen it, read about it or been made aware of it yet, on Monday night ESPN preseason football QB Brett Favre of the Minnesota Vikings made an illegal ‘crackback block’ on Houston Texans safety Eugene Wilson. It was an obvious penalty and Favre was flagged for it. He probably will be fined by the NFL. There seem to be no significant or even minor injuries as a result, and the game concluded. It pretty much ought to be a non-story as far as I am concerned.

Here’s the play:

The talking heads of ESPN, especially Mike Tirico and Ron “Jaws” Jaworski, went on and on and on about Brett ‘the Evil One’ Favre. I hope I didn’t make you choke, but you read that correctly. Favre was painted as a pretty nasty villain and league malcontent. This is blasphemy right? I mean isn’t Favre the anointed one? Hasn’t the press made him the standard bearer these last 10 years or so? I just don’t get how they can suddenly change and throw him under the bus. Wait a minute. I can!

It’s the herd mentality of the media. For years Favre was Untouchable. In games where he threw horrible INT(s), into double coverage, tried to scramble way from a busted play only to suffer a 15 yard sack he was labeled a ‘gun slinger’. Such comments as ‘you gotta love his competitive spirit’ were often repeated like a favorite mantra.

Now there is a change in the coverage of Favre. I’ve noticed Brett isn’t getting the love he once commanded. It seems he is no longer the poster boy for the NFL. Has the media turned on him for some reason? Are you all pissed he un-retired yet again? And specifically, all this non-love for an illegal block (1 play).

You professional media guys are as effin wishy washy as my 7 year old niece.

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

How’d you get that video in your blog post? That’s sweet. As for the topic, I REALLY hate hearing about Favre, but he’s going to make the Vikings a playoff team if he stays healthy. Other than what he can do to help Adrian Peterson, I don’t really care.

If Favre can just pilot the ship, the Vikings ought to win the Norris. That is saying SOMETHING.

I totally don’t care what ESPN analysts say about Brett Favre. Favre does look great in a Viking’s uniform, though. Destiny?

singular sweet. – my point exactly. If he improves the Vikings, all the better. ’nuff said

That was sick! Favre should be suspended for two games. That guy could have lost his knee for good and cost him a career. That ain’t right.

Reply

Steve September 2, 2009 at 4:06 pm

perhaps. I agree the NFL should come down on Fave as they would anyon else.

how could he have lost a knee, he hit him in the thigh. Great acting job by the DB. He must be looking for a career in show business. It was barely a bad block, specially when u think hes a qb lol. DB injured by QB wow thought they were tougher then that.

Gotta disagree with you on that one. After watching the replay a few times, it looked like the guy’s knee was bent in the wrong direction (backwards). I wouldn’t want to be him.

most overrated qb in the history of the game, cheapshot drama queen, attention grabbing vicodin chasing interception throwing CLOWN….good luck with him minnesota, should have stuck with Sage or Tavares…he’s going to have a GREAT first 3-4 games and then stink it up and ‘just have fun out there’…cuz thats what he does…add to his interceptions record in clutch games…he should be bl*wing desmond howard for winning that 1 super bowl, other than that he has nothing

OMG Puhleeeze – they are acting like he practices “evil” blocks everyday! He’s a quarterback folks, not a tackle. I seriously doubt it was intentional.

Reply

Steve September 2, 2009 at 3:25 pm

agreed – it was no way intentional.

Great block! Have been the recipient of many such in the distant past when men played real football! Makes you keep your head in the game!

Heh – in spite of it all, I think you can look at his eyes and agree: trying to avoid the hit.

RockHard September 1, 2009 at 5:41 pm

For those of you who have played football, this was a poor blocking atempt. Most “EVIL” crackbacks are looking at the guy when they shred his knee. Farve has his back turned and is obviously thinking the back can see him…which he should have…did anyone see the play where Houston took Farve out at the knees?? That was a penalty too….Mike Tirico is a bonehead who gets excited about the dumbest things…let it go….you will see a lot worse this year.

For those who feel this hit was malicious or intentional I must point out how retarded you sound. Offensive linemen do this exact same block in every nfl game played. Houston’s O tackle was doing the same thing to Jerod Allen the entire game. Just because the little girl tackles are getting beat or arent strong enough to stop the impending rush does that mean they have the right to try to “end someone’s career” as well? The problem here lies in the rule not in the players. If the NFL in all it’s arrogance declare this ok to do inside the pocket then who should be to blame if a QB who has largely played inside the pocket his entire carreer chooses to use a blocking technique that the O linemen do routinely?

If anyone is to blame it should be Roger Goodell. This type of block is seriously bad for anyone, anywhere and shouldn’t be allowed for anyone to use. The double standard that exsists is the reason this sort of thing happens routinely.
Blame the system not the Playa and quit whining about a QB who threw a block for one of his teammates.

I could not agree more. My whole point was the press/media coverage of Favre. It is so infantile it makes me want to puke.
