The Cowboys have to travel to New York to open the 2012 NFL season. The honor is all for the Giants because they, as the defending champs, get to host the season opener. However, this is a VERY good thing for the Cowboys. If any team needed a way to make themselves INSTANTLY relevant, it was the Cowboys. They can go up to New York and open the season by defeating the Giants, as the Giants begin the defense of their title, on the road. To open the season. That is the kicker. That is something that the Cowboys need. They need this. Badly.

I knew there was a way for the Cowboys and the Redskins to appeal their salary cap penalty, but, I didn’t know what it was. Here it is. The Cowboys filed a grievance against the NFL and the NFLPA over the penalty. Now, to wait.
I should say that I think this whole process is a little intriguing. Do you know who imposes the penalty? The NFL Management Council. Guess who chairs that right now? Just guess. I’ll wait.

Ok, I know that Power Rankings, by themselves, don’t really do that much for anybody, but, I think they’re worth talking about in the context of where a team sits (especially when no one is playing any games and the draft hasn’t even happened yet.) So, when you read early rankings, you will see the Cowboys in the top half of most of them. The one I am reading as inspiration for this piece has them at 14.
The Cowboys were basically fined cap space after they frontloaded some contracts during the uncapped season of 2010. Now, they are looking to team up with, of all teams, the Redskins, to see if they can get their penalties reduced or waived altogether. Here’s what Jerry Jones had to say about it:
“The Cowboys … don’t agree with that and how it was figured. I guess the Redskins feel the same way. We’re trying to work through that.”
When it comes to quarterbacks in the NFL, not many have a better record than Troy Aikman, the Cowboys legend. At a recent Q and A session at wingstop in Texas, Troy was asked what his thoughts were on Tony Romo, the current Cowboys quarterback.
Aikman had this to say about Romo: “I think Tony already is a better quarterback than I was. I know how quarterbacks are judged but as far as his play-making ability and the things that he is capable of doing, he is a far more athletic quarterback, capable of making more plays than I ever was able to. He has a good team around him and hopefully, and I believe this will happen, I believe that he will win a Super Bowl before he is done playing.“
When the Dallas Cowboys failed to make the playoffs yet again last season, fans demanded changes in certain positions, especially on the defensive side of things. 8 players visited Dallas and they have snapped 7 of them up in the free agency period.
Kyle Orton (Quarterback) – Orton has joined the Cowboys on a 3 year deal and he knows his job is going to be on the bench as a backup for Tony Romo. Orton is one of the best possible options in terms of a bench quarterback for the Cowboys and he will provide vital experience that may be needed in tough situations.
Alright, if you read throughout the Braveheart Sports Network, you know that I also write for our Basketball and Football blogs. Well, I had an interesting mini-talk with my Dad about Peyton Manning and the Broncos yesterday over dinner. But, the part I didn’t mention in my piece on the football blog is that I mentioned the Cowboys in that same conversation because I still think the Cowboys should make a run at Peyton Manning.
Anybody else confused by this? I know that Kyle Orton doesn’t see many places where he can go because of RG3, Andrew Luck, and Matt Flynn, but, why would he go to the Cowboys? Is it a steady paycheck? Is he done with trying to be the golden boy? Does he think he has a chance at winning the job in Dallas? I mean, did he get reassurances, or is he just thinking that he can pull it together in camp and win the job or wait for Tony Romo to get hurt or benched so he can swoop in and take over?
The Cowboys are finalizing a deal that is perhaps one that has surprised a few fans. Kyle Orton was eventually axed from the starting slot by Denver midway through last season, famously allowing Tim Tebow to inspire a playoff win over the Steelers. It now seems the experienced quarterback is on his way to join the Boys.
After the Broncos having so much success under the services of Tebow, Orton thought his time was done and headed to finish the season with the Kansas City Chiefs. For the Chiefs he threw 252 passes for 1758 as well throwing 9 touchdown passes and gaining a QB rating of 77.8.
Anyone who grew up in the 90′s knows that singular phrase. Even if you didn’t watch “Seinfeld,” you would be surprised how often you find yourself saying, “Newman” everytime you are wronged or are having a bad moment.
Well, today, I think it’s fair to say “Newman” that the Cowboys have cut Terence Newman. I’m not sure why, other than to create cap space, and I just don’t think it was the right move.
