Marion vs. Julius, Part 2

by Anothony on September 30, 2008

As we all know by now, the Cowboys suffered their first loss of the season in the final Texas Stadium appearance of the hated Washington Redskins.

Cowboys running back Marion Barber played a less prominent role this week, as he was held to just 26 yards rushing on only 8 carries. He also caught 2 passes for 11 yards and did not score a touchdown in the game.

Barber only logging 10 touches in a game as pivotal as this one (and home game in your division are most pivotal) is inexcusable. A back like Barber, who is very good at loosening up and wearing down opposing defenses, should get as many carries as possible throughout the course of the game. The complete abandonment of the running game Sunday afternoon simply boggles the mind.

The man Barber replaced, Seahawks running back Julius Jones probably had a better day because his team didn’t lose. Of course they had a bye week, so a loss would’ve been especially newsworthy.

The Cowboys host the super-sorry Bengals next week, while the Seahawks go east to take on the Super Bowl champion Giants.

Stats through Week 4
Marion Barber rushing: 70 carries, 311 yards, 4 TDs
Julius Jones rushing: 61 carries, 312 yards, 2 TDs

Marion Barber receiving: 12 catches, 98 yards, 1 TD
Julius Jones receiving: 6 catches, 35 yards, 0 TDs

Fumbles
Marion Barber: 2 (1 lost)
Julius Jones: 0
