The Cowboys will be 0-3 after they go to Houston in week three and get skull thumped by the very good Houston Texans. It looks like this week’s answer to all the current woes of a shake-up for field goal kicking didn’t have the impact Jerry thought it would.

So what is next? Change the blue Gatorade to red? Discount the parking fee at the Death Star by 33%?

All kidding aside, I can get specific on all the areas where I see problems, but I don’t want to get caught up on the granular. Everything that is wrong with the Cowboys seems to easily fall into a few generalized categories and those have been in place for years, albeit some of them in revolving incarnations:

The Great Jimster provided some valuable insights into the Cowboys early this morning. Here’s what he said in his Fox Sports column:

Cowboys are back?

Saturday was the best the Cowboys have looked all year long.

Not only did they beat an outstanding team in the Saints, but they beat them on the road and in a hostile, loud environment.

I think the Cowboys have finally realized that their receivers don’t have the separation speed. And so they changed their offense and became more methodical.

This footage dates back to March 2009 when Dale Hansen traveled out to the Florida Keys to interview the great Jimmy Johnson. It’s important to note Jimmy’s opinions of this current Dallas team.

A couple quick points:

  1. Jimmy likes Romo a lot
  2. He doesn’t blame Romo for a team’s worth of penalties and turnovers
  3. He thinks Dallas will turn it around
  4. He wants Dallas to win so bad it hurts
  5. He acknowledges Jerry Jones’ greatness as an owner (despite GM failings)
