The Three-Headed Monster: Week 1

by Anothony on September 16, 2009

marion-barberfelix-jonestashard-choiceAh, football is back and a Cowboys opening weekend win only makes things better.

Here’s my take on the Cowboys’ three-headed rushing monster: Marion Barber, Felix Jones, and Tashard Choice. Each week I’ll analyze how each player was used during the course of the game.

And now, for Week 1:

5 “No Free Lunch” (NFL) teams may as well already call it a season and mail it in.

What is going on in the NFL this season? With the third team making a major personnel change this preseason by firing a prominent coach/coordinator, and two teams keeping it under wraps just who will be their starting quarterback, this season is off to as big a Bizarro/Earth2 reminiscent one as I can recall in recent years. I would also venture to say all of these teams are probably in dire straits, based upon these events and how they performed last season. Let’s get to the discussion.

With 10:46 remaining in the 1st Quarter, Dallas desperately needs to pick up the pace. The season is on the line here. With Atlanta’s win over Tampa Bay this afternoon, Romo and the Cowboys have to win to stay in the Wildcard hunt. Tampa Bay and Atlanta are currently in the two NFC Wildcard slots based on win-loss record. Dallas could tie both with a win tonight.

Neither offense has shown any sparks of brilliance early in the game. Stay tuned for a Half-time update. You’ll be able to read my take on the 1st Half right here on this post.

Who do you like in this week’s matchup, as the fast-falling Dallas Cowboys host the lean and mean Tampa Bay Buccaneers? I’ve never claimed to be a “rocket surgeon”, so don’t look to me for an outcome. But I will offer up these five points supporting why Dallas will either enjoy that fleeting thrill of victory and five points explaining why Dallas will once again taste the bitterness of defeat.
