This is a difficult time in the life of a Dallas Mavericks fan. After two sorely disappointing years in a row, Dallas made little to no changes this offseason to prepare for one of the strongest conferences in NBA history.
Josh Howard is an albatross. Jason Kidd is a year or two shy of geriatric. Dirk just passed his peak. Devean George, Juwan Howard, and contributes next to nothing. The future of the Mavs lies in this small foundation:
Dirk Nowitzki, DeSegana Diop, Brandon Bass, Gerald Green, and Antoine Wright. And while Jason Terry doesn’t belong in that nucleus, he’s still such a fan favorite that you have to keep him unless something big comes available.
Just know that without trading Josh for something of promise, the Mavs will not likely compete for serious consideration this year.
